タンパク質科学や質量分析分野の専門性を通じた創薬/技術プロジェクトの推進
・化学構造解析:高分解能LC-MS/MS, Intact Protein MS, Peptide mapping等を活用したタンパク質やリガンドの詳細な化学構造解析
・分子間相互作用解析:Affinity selection MS等を活用した標的タンパク質に対するリガンドの結合能評価
・立体構造解析・作用機序解析:HDX-MS, XL-MS, Native MS等を活用した標的タンパク質-リガンド複合体や、タンパク質-タンパク質複合体の相互作用解析に基づく立体構造解析および作用機序解析
・革新的分析法開発:最先端の質量分析技術を基盤とした新規分析法の構築と応用

Chugai is working toward the challenging goal of doubling R&D output by 2030 by utilizing our unique science and cutting-edge technologies to create innovative new drugs. At the core of this grand vision, our Protein Science Department was newly established in 2021.
◆Why the Protein Science Department?
In our department, with protein science expertise as our core, we thoroughly understand disease-related target proteins at the molecular and atomic levels. Based on this knowledge, we collaborate closely with research departments involved in all drug discovery modalities (small molecules, middle molecules, antibodies, and novel modalities) to realize the creation of innovative medicines while maximizing the potential of each modality. By being deeply involved in the entire drug discovery process, particularly in early-stage research, you can experience the thrill of generating actual therapeutic drugs through scientific discoveries.

◆Mass Spectrometry Function: Deciphering the Essence of Molecules Through Mass to Pioneer New Frontiers in Drug Discovery Research
The Mass Spectrometry function utilizes cutting-edge mass spectrometry technologies centered on precise and highly sensitive LC-MS and LC-MS/MS to perform molecular-level analyses of protein and ligand chemical structures, molecular interactions, and 3D complex structures with exceptional precision. These technologies are integrated with advanced technologies from other functions within our department to elucidate biological phenomena, leading to the realization of precise and highly accurate drug discovery. Furthermore, we collaborate closely with diverse drug discovery projects across various modalities, contributing to the elucidation of drug efficacy mechanisms and the development of optimization strategies from our unique perspective based on mass spectrometry expertise. Through collaboration with multidisciplinary researchers across departmental boundaries, we directly contribute to improving the success rates of drug discovery projects. As the number of projects increases and target molecules become more complex, the importance of detailed structural and interaction analyses at the molecular and atomic levels using advanced mass spectrometry technologies continues to grow. We are seeking next-generation leader candidates who can interpret the behavior of complex biomolecules through the physical quantity of mass and pioneer new breakthroughs in drug discovery research.

Description of work:
Advancement of drug discovery/technology projects through expertise in protein science and mass spectrometry fields.
・Chemical Structure Analysis: Detailed chemical structure analysis of proteins and ligands using high-resolution LC-MS/MS, Intact Protein MS, Peptide mapping, etc.
・Molecular Interaction Analysis: Evaluation of ligand binding ability to target proteins utilizing Affinity selection MS and other techniques
・Structural Analysis and Mechanism of Action Analysis: 3D structural analysis and mechanism of action analysis based on interaction studies of target protein-ligand complexes and protein-protein complexes using HDX-MS, XL-MS, Native MS, etc.
・Innovative Analytical Method Development: Construction and application of novel analytical methods based on cutting-edge mass spectrometry technologies
Through close collaboration with diverse specialized functions within the department, you will lead research that integrates advanced mass spectrometry technologies with other cutting-edge techniques to deepen the essential understanding of biological phenomena and maximize the value of drug discovery projects. Furthermore, by working together with other departments and divisions, you will achieve significant acceleration of drug discovery projects by solving complex challenges through the effective utilization of mass spectrometry technologies.
